HIGH CONCEPT LABORATORIES SPONSORED ARTIST RESIDENCY: SEPTEMBER-DECEMBER 2015
LIA KOHL AND BETHANY YOUNGE
Focusing specifically on expanding their traditional artistic roles by means of dismantling the binary and hyper-masculinized cycle of composer>score>performer, Younge and Kohl created a series of works that stemmed from a process that was both more organic and specifically human. Both women are fascinated by the function and integration of the audience, the avowal of bodies, and the sound-worlds that emanate from pedestrian objects and their instruments. Two process works exploring these themes, By, To, With, For or Toward and No Face that Let's Itself Be Looked At were presented at High Concept Laboratories and Intuit: the Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, respectively.
